Document Summary

Different colors of vesicles: cells can recognize which organelle is which, how mature is the organelle, etc. Intracellular membranes are highly curved --> not flat. Larger radius of curvature => more flat surface. If you have entirely pc sidechains, the membrane would be flat. But if pe sidechains stacked together, they would make a curved surface. To control curvature of membrane, get pe at curved regions, pc at regions which you want to be straight. Second picture: ldl that"s been internalized by the cell. This shows that cells could ingest ldl, then break it down to fatty acids and cholesterol which could be used to the cell itself for growth. Goldstein identified mutations in ldl receptors which means those patients can"t internalize ldl, so they have high ldl in bloodstream. When this happens, cell will build a structure beneath the particle: the blue and the red layers. Ap2 complex binds directly to the ldl receptor.
