Name tobacco come from the name that the natives gave the leaves, tobbagos. Another theory of the name is that it comes from the 1st shipment of tobacco which was from the island of tobago. Concept of smoking was noticed from christopher columbus. He did not understand what the natives were doing. Tobacco was initially used as a medicinal drug. Used to be said to be good for everything, from the girdle up. 1774: tobacco resuscitator-> blew tobacco smoke and was used to resuscitate people that have drowned. People would smoke multiple people together in cafes and they would smoke. They used pipes for smoking, they had long stems.
