Spinal cord: gray matter: cell bodies and neurons, white matter: myelinated axons. Involuntary control: reflexes: when you touch a hot iron there is sensory information sent to the dorsal ganglion to an interneuron in the gray matter then that send an impulse back to the limb to move. Pns: everything else, ganglia: are the aggregation of cell bodies, bundles: of nerve fibers, autonomic nervous system. Involuntary functions: heart beat can be increased or decreased but not voluntarily, there is smooth muscle that is controlled in the digestive tract and the vessels. Innervates cardiac and smooth muscle as well as glands: has two divisions that are in competition. Functions in energy consumption: diffuse actions, heart rate increases, dilate pupils, adrenergic response. Fight or flight response: adrenal gland produces a lot of adrenaline and the sympathetic system reacts to it, parasympathetic system. Localized actions: decrease heart rate, increase digestion. There can be a chain of two neurons that connect.
