Not just right now in this very moment, in terms of chronology it starts in the 19th century and it is till the present. Van- interested in understanding contemporary material culture and applying archaeological fieldmethods and ideas about thinking about the world to this. How they can contribute how we as a society use material culture in the present. In the case of the car they looked at two different moments in the use life, the use of the van between 1991-99 and 99-2005, they have slices of time like a stratigraphy or a archaeological chronology. Many of these studies of the present are close to these other academic fields that deal with young materiality. The relationship between objects and things and how material culture shapes human practice and the human practice shapes material culture. Started in the 1970"s, it is related to historical archaeology(outgrowth of it), located in the broader field of postprocessual archaeology but is still different.
