Anth 202 - lecture 2 - nature and culture. It has multiple meanings, every person has a different opinion/view of what it means. A ruler, undeniable force (ex. force of nature) Impermanence of physical world, permanence of mental world. Except our own thoughts, there is nothing absolutely in our power . Mind is infinite, body is controlled mechanically. It"s an open door to looking at the physical & non-physical world. It creates separate spheres: nature and culture. What we think as natural is often cultural which means it can change. We can distinguish the two by looking over there and observing the differences in other part of the world. She made the familiar strange and the strange familiar (ex. Progressive voice in society on the tip of social revolution. Nature is in our culture, culture is in our nature. Most living things have radial or bilateral symmetry. We define ourselves through our relationships, our history.
