1st common assumption: westerners damage nature while non-westerners do not. The down-side of colonialism would be the destruction of ecological values, and not the destruction of human population --> contrary to human rights. 2nd common assumption: westerners damage the env. is because of their values about it. Numerous cases where nature-culture separation seems to have led to env. destruction. Environmentalism separates nature and culture --> led to some protection of nature. Separating culture and nature is not unique to the west. Other reasons why the environment is damaged e. g. population, technology, env. parameters. Some societies lack the technology or number to damage their environments. Conservation is the deliberate attempt to limit resource use. Ganges --> no matter how polluted it can be, it will still be pure. Take care of the environment and try to show that to the younger. Christians vs animists vs people that just don"t believe in other forces. Blame themselves for the destruction of the environment.
