The inka (cuzco) part three and mississippian society (cahokia) part one. Cuzco as a ritual map and calendar. Dotted with hundreds of shrines located on a series of ritual paths and sight lines. Huaca (waka) = shrine sacred objects and places. World was potentially animate, filled with spirits and essences of supernatural beings and forces of ancestors and deities. Often most notable objects on the landscape due to size or peculiarities. Pururauca stone warriors helped pachacuti in legend. Calendar centered around veneration of these shrines. The basics of the ceque system: ~328 huacas (shrines, ~40 ceques (lines, 3-15 huacas per ceque, korikancha is origin point, ceques are 5-11km in length and stretch into the cuzco valley. Ceque system can also be viewed like a khipu conceptually. One master string with other strings hanging off of it. Huacas are full of information idealized social and political map. 2 halves (hanan and hurin) complementary pairs.
