A ethno-historical approach to customary law: close study of society and conlict resoluion system, ideas of law deined through tradiion. Undp customary law and pracice in lao pdr. With 49 oicially recognized ethnic groups, lao pdr is an integral part of peoples daily lives. Tradiional informal rules and pracices have developed over century and are being followed by people within their ethnic group with a signiicant impact on ways of thinking and behaviour. Informal rules and pracices consitute customary legal systems, which serve as conlict resoluion mechanisms by means of mediaion or arbitraion. Look at customary law as a source of reference for creaing judicial reform: creaing an answerable legal system in a new context, a manual created to teach customary law. Discriminatory pracices bracketed out, while redeining judicial structures. Understand how customary laws afect women and girls and how respect for women and children"s right afect their access to jusice. Objecive to deine customary law and describe its usage.
