Religious practice in roman world: gods and official cults co-existed with judaism, mithraism and christianity; religion represented allegiance to empire. 312 battle of milvian bridge (leading into rome) 313 edict of milan => granted religious freedom to christians (freedom with economic prospects) Pre-constantinian christian architecture: house church (ex dura europas) Every roman town had at least 1 basilica (large rectangular building) administrative structure. Christians looked to basilica for inspiration, not temple (select few)
