Concept of Excess
-Excess: by necessity, something needs to be exceeded. Example: how does the good girl
exceed the bad girl
-Why many of the women artists of the time have not surpassed others like Picasso and
Matisse

Intersectionality: the ways in which race, genders and classes intersect with each other
-Addressing the fact that we are not just ONE thing. Various identity markers of a scholar and
an artist
-Ex. white, straight, rich â allows privilege to those artists over the inferior who were poor,
black, gay etc. Not that far from the abolishment of slavery, it was very difďŹcult for black
artists to gain power in the art world.
