Subduction zones: eruptions, friction from subduction causes large destructive quakes. Pacific ring of fire : characterized by subduction zones, violent earthquakes and volcanic. 5 largest earthquakes >> located on pacific ring of fire (mostly) Cascadia- locked subduction zone capable of producing a m9 earthquake. High population densities where hazard and risk are high.
