Organisms 1- AEBI-210 001 September 28th, 2012 Light Reactions Light Review: Visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum In the photoelectric effect, light hitting a metal dislodges electrons -Sometimes this wavelength of light is in the visible spectrum -Electricity passing through a filament in a lightbulb causes heat and light Pigments: Chlorophyll a is the main photosynthetic pigment which Chlorophyll b, carotenoids and phycobilins are accessory pigments The absorption spectrum is the wavelengths of light a certain pigment can absorb Photons are absorbed by molecules which are boosted to a higher energy level Fluorescence is when energy is released as a photon at a lower energy level Resonance energy transfer occurs between molecules Electron transfer is when the high energy electron is transferred to another molecule Light Reactions of Photos
