Description
Lecture 3 Transition State Theory: how the reactants reach the energy state of the intermediate. Energy states of a molecule fluctuate, following a distribution. Coupling of reactions make unfavourable reactions favourable. Coupling uses enzymes to physically bring together the two reactions. ATP, with its highly negative charge, is capable of changing the structure of a protein, “activating” it or “deactivating” it through phosphorylation. Change of charge allows for a redox reaction, an oxidization reaction of the energy source, forcing a reduction coupled to the oxidation, which carries energy. In the case of metabolic processes, glucose donates electrons to NAD+, making NAD
