Document Summary

Cells make decisions on when to do what based on the cell cycle. G0 phase prevents further cell division such as with neurons. You don"t want the cells to get smaller and smaller after each division. You don"t want to lose dna content when cells divide. Monitor the amount & rate of spreading of radioactivity in a plant. The longer the cells with radioactive dna were incubated, the more radioactivity would b found in the chromosomes of the plant. Determined the rate of dna replication from the rate of radioactive accumulation. Noticed that the radioactivity would go from nothing & then spike up. Deduced that cells don"t synthesize dna as a continuous process & that cells chose this at a specific time known as s phase. Protein phosphorylation is a form of measurement for the cell to recognize when replicat must occur. Concentration, in this case, comes with the accumulation of phosphorylation.
