CATH 325 Lecture 13: 13 The Religious Sense
Document Summary
13 the religious sense: an education in freedom. Involved attention and acceptance: acceptance accepting something from the outside. We do not want to move out of the comfort zone. Must have a right attitude in one of asking. If you think that something must exist: positive answer it must exist. If there is a strong sense that there is a response, then it will be there: a real search always implies a positive answer as an ultimate hypothesis. The correct attitude, the one that human being is placed in by nature for his confrontation with the real, is positive. The position of doubt makes us incapable of action. If one begins with a negative hypothesis, then even if there is something there to find, it will not be found. If one starts out with a positive hypothesis, it will be found. An education in freedom is an education in positiveness before the real, in cultivating a capacity for certainty.
