Heracles: hera sends snakes to heracles" cradle to kill him, but he just killed them, proving his strength even as an infant, early in childhood, he kept trying to learn the lyre but kept making mistakes. The club and the hide becomes his most famous attributes - he is most often depicted with these two items. Lernaean hydra: a giant serpent with 8 mortal heads and 1 immortal head. Forced to convince artemis that he had no choice, it is part of his penance, promises to return the beast: after bringing it to eurystheus, the beast escapes and returns to artemis. In celebration he built the pillars of heracles: golden apples of the hesperides, the ladies that guarded the tree that held golden apples, there was also a snake that guarded the tree. In one account heracles was helped by atlas. Stories of the 12 labours can be traced back to the stone age.
