Punishments: the titans are thrown into tartarus with the exception of atlas: placed in the mountains of n. africa and ordered to support the weight of the heavens: typhonomachy: zeus against typhoeus (typhon) Gaea begets typhoeus (represents disorder, non-civilized existence, primordial dragon-figure) Battle with zeus in which there are various versions: zeus fights alone or zeus who is overcome temporary and taken prisoner, is aided by hermes. Zeus is victorious and typhoeus is imprisoned under mt. Etna (volcano in sicily: gigantomachy: all of the olympians against the giants. Giants attack olympus, they are urged by gaea.
