People are willing to give up some of their fundamental rights for security (security against terrorism) All these things contribute to feelings on instability. Representation of crime in local news has increased, despite decrease in crime: impersonal/direct impact. We"re not aware of in what ways it"s impacting our everyday life. It"s easy to ignore in everyday life, without something confronting us that deeply disturbs or changes our everyday life: complexity, commerce. Amazon. com main business is brining buyers and sellers together. The data itself has a value that can be sold to institutions. Beyond the value of the data, there"s an entire economic industry that produce surveillance technology: deregulation + privatization. Surveillance practices online has been extremely lightly regulated. They outpace legislation and policy that might regulate them. Governments don"t really have the capability: convenience. Promise of new technology is an immediate access to goods and services. We come to accept access, speed, and efficiency.
