The shell keeps track of a set of parameter names and values which can determine the behavior of the shell. We can access these variables to set new values or find the values. Very useful to store the result of a command. Path : list of places to look for commands. This is important because programs that you have created will not be in /bin, and this way you can look for commands in different directories. Histfile : where command history is saved. Ps1: shell variable that is your command line prompt and can be west to whatever you want! A=5 will set a shell variable a equal to 5. Prefix the name of a shell variable with a $ and use the echo command echo will print the value of the variable a.
