COMP 273 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Multiplication, Coprocessor, Multi-Core Processor
Document Summary
Today: finish off learning about chip sets (multiplying circuits), then multicore cpus. For example, say we have a computer keyboard. Imagine that each key has a wire coming out of it. Whenever you push on the key, you get a 1 on the wire, and if it isn"t being pushed, you get a 0. But ibm and apple wires could be different (apple wires don"t have f1-f12 keys, for example). The wires might not be in the same order as eachother. The keyboard is attached to rom which is attached to ascii. Ascii might go to some register -- like it can go to the ram or the cpu. Rom becomes a part of the chip set. The math coprocessor is an important hcip because the floating point register/computation doesn"t look the same as the integer register. The cpu alu is an integer processor normally.
