A question to ask clients in crises. Talking to someone who is going through the same thing and feeding on each others negative feelings. Understand that we have no control over some things. Establish with the client what will work and what will not. Imminent risk of psychological/physical harm: find safety. Protect individuals from harming or getting harmed. Perception of what is happening that exceeds said persons resources to cope. 1: loss of control, acute emotional upset arising: developmental, situational, existential, systemic sources, caused by one or a series of events. Changes in life: graduation, marriage, first child, retirement. Affects all parts of life: food, survival, economic. Perceived threat as if it was happening in the moment. Symptoms may be substance use, personality changes, stop of medication etc. Many people (other than psychiatrists can help) Being in a crisis may be temporary. Crisis does not relate to emotional/mental disorders.
