The indigenous people had education where the elders taught the youth but there was no system. The education was so personalized that there were too many methods of teaching. People were looking for a far continent and a route to the east (india, china, etc. They believed the world was small and round, so that if they sailed west they would get to india/china. Jacques cartier arrived here in montreal and called the china rapids as such because he thought it would bring him to china easily. Jacques cartier arrived here, montreal, found and claimed the land for king of france. He failed at settling and at finding value in this land. Once, he filled a ship with false gold and useless quartz. Other people, though, found fur and started the fur trade.
