ENGL 204 - Literature and the Bible

-9 Conference sessions (When there is a conference session, there in no class that
day. Format = 2 classes + 1 conference / week)
-The professor who used to teach this course was a Medievalist .Taught the class for
several years, and then headed the Catholic Studies division at McGill.
-This courses focuses on the books of the Bible as a text: from a literature perspective
(not a religious one)
-Books for the course:
•King James Version Bible (KJV) > Old and New Testament (can be bought OR
rented at the bookstore
•The Red Tent (novel to go with Old Testament)
•The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (To go with the New Testament)
-The power of stories:
•Has allowed the culture pf the Ancient Israelites to survive through history and
generations
-There are many voices and authors in the Bible (It’s like an anthology)!
•Narrative

•Legal
•Epistles
