ENVR 202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Orion Nebula, Condensation, Gravitational Energy
Document Summary
History of life, by r. cowen (pages 1-7) Formation of the solar system and earth: one difficulty w/ explaining the origin of life is that earth is the only example we"ve got! How different was it when life first appeared: a new solar system begins w/ the death of a previous one. A star becomes a nova or a supernova, destroying itself and its solar system. But at the same time elements are made and the seed of a new solar system are created. Our solar sys. was created the same way ~ 5 billion yrs ago. A model = scientific hypothesis (1)- what evidence supports it? (2)- does it predict patterns seen repeatedly? (3)- are there patterns that disprove it: remnants of a destroyed solar system.
