Two central geographical notions will surface throughout the course. Landscapes and the ways in which people produce, shape, and consume them. Globalisation and how it relates to localisation and glocal-ization. The widening, deepening, and speeding up of worldwide interconnectedness in all aspects of contemporary social life. Globalization in consumption, different people across different parts of the globe have similar social connections and identities. Different concepts that they all identify with in a similar way (ronald mcdonald becomes in a symbol) Consumptions of fashion and of lifestyles becomes globalized. An understanding of what makes certain places unique, and the increasing concern that local places, cultures, and environments are being overwhelmed by globalization. Localization of places, seeing a picture and knowing instantly where it is from. Local identities that we want to hold on to to de ne who we are. Recognition that there is an interdependence between macro and local forces.
