Document Summary

What kind of environment are we in: there are some trees in the surrounding area, mountains streams are flowing, we see water in the middle (white water) It is more resistant material: this is a nick point more resistant material mixed in with other material, leads to erosion. The ability of a river to erode and transport debris represents a balance between driving and resisting forces. Erosion depends on how much potential energy is provided by the fluid flow and how much of the energy is consumed by resistance to flow. As water flows it exerts pressure on the sides and bed of the channel as well as within the water column. Two possible flow regimes exist: laminar and turbulent flow. At low velocities fluid flow is smooth, or laminar, and the fluid can be pictured as a series of parallel layers moving at slightly different velocities.
