Document Summary

Here we have a building that is tipped over. It has to be zero degrees for 2 consecutive years: the russians have a slightly different definition for them its 3 years but 2 years is fine for us. Permafrost is a thermal state and is independent of ground material composition or water content: like glaciers, permafrost is very climate dependent. If (cid:455)ou do(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e a (cid:272)old (cid:272)li(cid:373)ate, (cid:455)ou (cid:449)o(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e per(cid:373)afrost: you (cid:449)o(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e a la(cid:374)dfor(cid:373) that (cid:449)e are looki(cid:374)g at i(cid:374) toda(cid:455)"s (cid:272)lass. Two basic zones: continuous, discontinuous, sporadic, widespread, alpine and subsea permafrost. There is a bunch of permafrost dispersed in canada. It is not continuous: when we say sporadic or widespread just means there is a lot more frozen sediments, this just means you have a widespread of sediments, this can impact some of the landforms we can see. This is a diagram putting everything together: permafrost is the purple colour.
