Mds told the public what to do and they did it. High water mark: vaccine for polio (1955) Polio outbreaks in north america and public places were closed down due to the spreading of the disease. Suffered from polio and very rarely was photographed in a wheelchair. Creation of a foundation to support the research of the disease. Jonas salk developed a vaccine under this foundation. It was a vaccine that was made from viruses that were dead and given by injection. It took multiple shots plus a booster to protect you. Sabin developed an oral vaccine from a living virus, but it was changed so it was less dangerous. You would get an infection and sometimes symptoms, very rarely you would get the full blown disease.
