Suffered from polio and very rarely was photographed in a wheelchair. Creation of a foundation to support the research of the disease. Jonas salk developed a vaccine under this foundation. It was a vaccine that was made from viruses that were dead and given by injection. It took multiple shots plus a booster to protect you. Sabin developed an oral vaccine from a living virus, but it was changed so it was less dangerous. You would get an infection and sometimes symptoms, very rarely you would get the full blown disease.
