Yugoslav communists intensified their stalinism even after split. Americans grant food aid to yugoslavia as reward for breaking w stalin. Local admins maintain local budgets, hav more poli freedom than under stalinism. Association of communists, not portrayed as as highly centralized. Still centralized, but more democratic than anywhere else in eastern eur. Bicameral assemblies--1 for poli, 1 for econ. Structure of self-managed socialism, tho still basically a show. Trying not 2 b seen as ally to us or ussr. Control over newspapers/literature to limit aggressive/nationalist rhetoric. Djilas advocating reforms back to more marxist values, largely shunned for it--released of poli duties tho not immediately put on trial. When he was imprisoned, it was mild compared to what happened 2 ppl in. When khrushchev came to power, relations seemed to improve. Moscow declaration--diversity a source of strength to intl communist movement. Re-institution of stalinism after it had begun to decrease.
