Macedonia b/gan preparations for independence--declared jan 6, 1992. Would not declare independence until march, 1992. Followed referendum in which most serbs didn"t participate. Kosovo, tho 90% albanian ruled out bc had not been a repub. B-h put on hold, pending more participated-in referendum. Macedonia rejected bc greece objected to the name. Croatia promised recognition in return for guarantees of democracy/minority rights.
