Northern side would call battle based on closest body of water (battle of bull run) confederates would name battle after nearest town (battle of manassas)= 2 different names for the battles. Both sides had a totally unrealistic idea of what will unfold. Exaggerated sense of their own power and ability true on both sides. Just as much hubris and fantastical thinking on northern side as well.
