Umayyads were military all about pushing their frontiers not about establishing long lasting constitutions. Crusades: european imagination saw that they loomed a lot but they were very a small group of people in islamic society as the outcome of political events. Wars between fatimids and seljuks over the syria area which was very important for the economy. People were waiting for an outcome to this war. People were not expecting a religiously inspired invasions by the europeans (crusades) Europeans islamic technology: the saljuq used slave armies. Saljuq: appanage state: when a king dies in turkish dynasties, rather than the eldest son taking over they had the territory divided up between the princes which caused feuding between kings men. Princes were underage and teenagers and it was obliged to supervise and advise them to oversee the boy ruler and advising them about like military expansion etc. Sunni muslims were pleased that the shi"ites lost jerusalem to the crusaders.
