Warsaw: when german army retreated in fall 1944- nearly 80% of the city was torched and dynamited house by house, street by street. No other conflict in recorded history killed so many people in such a short time. In addition to the deaths of tens of millions of soldiers- 19 million civilians that died. After years of antisemetic propaganda, local populations were not only disposed to blame jews but sorry to see the return of men and women whose jobs and possessions they had taken. Not true for every member of these groups but true for the majority. Poland, 1500 jews murdered after the holocaust between 1945 and 1948.
