These camps oft only steps away from concentration camps. Many survivors had no homes to return to. In poland/e eur especially, those who tried met w violence. Neighbors sorry to see those whose possessions/jobs/apts they had taken return. Treatment for jews is best in us-controlled germany, so most go there. Hoping for passage to west, mandate palestine (soon israel) But few countries eager to accept jewish refugees. Many govt officials believed jews were communists. Christian canadians might see jews a threat to jobs. In camps, jews tried to reestablish sense of normality. Believes they r the pinnacle of democracy.
