Lecture 17 - in the ghettos, part ii. These types of ghettos were typical, especially within occupied poland and the general government. Fences or walls with barbed wire were characteristics of these types of ghettos. Most of them were located in countries that were nazi allies (romania and the soviet union) They did not have a wall or any fence per say and the population that was forced to reside within the ghetto was able to leave the ghetto. At times it was limited to a few hours a day, but there was a large variation. The conditions within the open ghettos were a bit better than those of the closed ghettos because there were opportunities to trade, obtain more food from outside.
