EDKP 443 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Focus Group, Audit Trail, Thick Description
Document Summary
Reliability and validity do not apply in qualitative research like they do in quantitative research: credibility. Comes from a thorough description of the research context. Allows readers to interpret the findings and conclusions. Need to provide evidence that they are integrated in the community. Personal involvement in investigation: want to feel as though the research is true, direct from the source: transferability. Transferability is applied instead of generalizability in qualitative research because samples are not random. Research typically finds interest in unique experiences. Find these to be transferable to other groups, reach conclusions through transferability. Not usually the goal of transferring findings from one group to another. Less often a part of qualitative research due to specificity: dependability. Assessment of the quality of the data. Reflects a (cid:396)esea(cid:396)(cid:272)he(cid:396)"s ability to deal with change. To increase dependability, qualitative interviews/focus groups are often conducted in an iterative fashion.
