EDKP 449 Lecture Notes - Lecture 99: Cytochrome C, Ubiquitin, Pericyte
Document Summary
Experiment = only study for aerobic training in duchenne. Assisted bicycle training delays functional deterioration in boys w/ duchenne muscular dystrophy. Arms + legs @ low intensity 5x per week. 2 groups = intervention (16) & control/no exercise (13) 1- primary outcomes: motor function measure: assess 3 functional abilities w/ items [higher score = better function, assisted 6-minute cycling test = maximum revolutions in 6 min. Results - what is known about endurance exercise training in duchenne. Prevented 6. 3% functional deterioration of disease during intervention period vs control group. 3 boys lost ability to walk 10 m. None boys lost ability to walk 10 m. 2 boys lost ability to rise from floor. Only 1 boy lost ability to rise from floor. *not scientific = not sure if endurance training really delayed but considered (+) positive outcome. 2- no significant changes in muscle strength/timed tests/rom/aerobic capacity (6m cycle test) 1st study ever done on duchenne = no heart rate measurement.
