Document Summary

Exercise pathophysiology of heart failure: breathing pattern & respiratory mechanics. * heart hypertrophy can reduce lung function & lung volume ic & tlc. Restrictive lung deficit - influence hf on pulmonary function test parameters. Chronic heart failure = restricted lung deficit so lung volume breathe closer to residual volume. Fef50-forced expiratory flow rate at 50% of fvc. In contrast to copd/asthma at any lung volume. Flow rate/fev because recoil from stiff lungs pushed by hypertrophic heart & no obstruction. & normal residual volume because no gas trapping [ rv] Reduced tlc so breathe closer to residual volume. But normal fev1/fvc ratio > 70% = no airflow obstruction. Even if fev1 reduced so fvc more > reduced than fev1. Restricted lung deficit in hf = small lung volume. All reduced vc / tlc / ic. Pattern of breathing during exercise in heart failure. Healthy = increase ventilation by increasing vt tidal volume & then increasing breathing.
