Not the only archiving tool out there. There are other national programs around archiving. Gold standard for archiving on the web. Digitized materials including websites, software, applications, games, music, movies/videos and 3 million public domain books. Activist organization advocating for the free and open web. Ability to upload and download digital material to its data clusters. The majority is collected by automatic web crawlers, working to preserve the web as a public space. The internet archive (the wayback machine) contains 150 billion web captures. The wayback machine: cache of historical websites. Founded by brewster kahle in 1996, much staff (300 employees) work solely on book-scanning centers. Open library/internet archive lending library, media collection, moving image collection, audio. According to foucault, the confines of all human knowledge are bound by our discursive archive, establishing the possibility of what can be interpreted traces left behind by a particular historical period and culture.
