Total cost of ownership (tco): tech costs go way beyond the price tag, total cost of ownership (tco): all costs associated with the design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, training & maintenance of a software system e. g. Condo, utilities, furniture, taxes, etc: different cost categories that compromise total cost of ownership: Business intelligence: data warehouse and data mining: previously too costly to store & process transaction data is now useful for management decision making, data mining is the process of automatically extracting valid, useful, previously unknown. & ultimately comprehensible information from large databases & using it to make crucial business decisions. Example: a large retailer with 100,000 products (skus) & hundreds of branches. Sales are tracked by time of day & linked to spending by individual customers. E. g. of analysis: spot that some regions have not accepted new products as fast as others.
