MIMM 214 Lecture 34: B cell Development & Tolerance

67 views7 pages

Document Summary

Self-reacting b cell (reacting to bone marrow cells) --> either apoptosis, or receptor editing. B cell that self-reacts to soluble self molecules --> does not get negatively selected, but becomes anergic once in periphery (nonresponsive) Last column: a b cell that"s inept but has escaped the negative selection. Appears as a normal mature na ve b cell, but is clonally ignorant. (nonresponsive) may get activated later on . Second rearrangement/recombination, second chance, editing to get a new bcr. The specificity is different after this new recombination! (new specificity) Might get some autoreactive b cells, reactive to those self- antigens that are not found in bone marrow. This is why the negative selection for t cells is more stringent than that for b cells -- t cells react first in linked recognition; b cell requires t cell help. T cells: + & - selections in thymus. B cells: - selection only, in both bone marrow & spleen.
