Earliest significant developments of musique concrete took place in 1948 at french. 1st example of pure electronic music = karlheinz stockhausen"s studie i (1953) & studie ii (1954: explored one of the basic technique of early electronic sound construction, additive synthesis. Additive synthesis: sounds created by combining sine waves to create artificial overtone structures & new timbres sine waves: pure pitches with no overtones, generated electrically by machines called sine wave generators. Studie ii was the first published score of electronic music subtractive synthesis: components of complex sound (electrically generated white noise") are filtered out to produce new timbres. Premiere of poeme electronique: philips pavilion shaped like a stomach; interior lit by constantly changing pttern of colour lights; film of black & white photographs; 3 separate projectors showed additional still photos on walls.
