During his years as cantor in leipzig - 1700-1750. Although ma(cid:374)(cid:455) compositions lost *>200 of these multi-movement cantatas survived to present day. Vocal or instrumental genre of german lutheran churches. Sacred cantatas = not dramatic presentations like opera.
