Music of the 20th and 21st centuries continued 26/03/18. Primitivism: paintings more 2d, the rite of spring by stravinsky is an example of this. Stravinsky: went through multiple time periods, there was a riot in 1913 in paris when the rite of spring was first performed, forced to immigrate because of the political situation and ended up in the usa. Preferred absolute music and started thinking that music was just a form of art and not to tell a story: ex: octet for wind instruments (1923) No descriptive title, titled like an 18th century piece. Type of ensemble: classical types of instruments. A lot of it is related to the world wars. Nobody is ever happy in these paintings: ex: the scream painting. Isolation, madness, deranged psychological state artist purposely trying to put you on edge: this is happening at the same time as primitivism and they"re related.
