Emerged into poopular culture during the summer of love in part thanks to the monterey. 1947: introduced commercially in 1947 as a drug with psychiatric uses. October 24, 1968: lsd becomes illegal to have possesion of in usa. People begin to experiment with this drug. Provided critics with more evidence that rock was becoming a form of art. Non-musical in uences: interest in unconscious, symbolist poetry, surrealism, expressionism . Emphasis on improvisation derived from blues, jazz and south asian (indian) classical music. Trying to incorporate old traditions of music that have nothing to do with popular music.
