Health claim is evaluated on: causality, generalizability, quality assurance. Require approval before the food can be marketed with intended health claim. Health claims that do not bring the food under the definition of a drug do not require premarket approval or regulatory amendment. The ter(cid:373) (cid:862)food(cid:863) hereafter (cid:373)ea(cid:374)s a food category; a food (cid:894)whole or processed(cid:895); or, a food constituent, added or inherent. A food that is supplemented by addition of non-permitted uses of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or novel herbal or bioactive ingredients cannot be sold legally without prior authorization by health canada.
