Respiratory failure is caused by a dysfunctional respiratory system due failure of: the gas exchanging capabilities of the lungs, edema is an example. It is a disease where the skeletal muscle is not functioning appropriately. It is a hereditary condition marked by progressive weakening and wasting of the muscles. Arterial hypoxia (hypoxemia: a condition referred to deficient blood oxygenation due to low pao2 and low % hb saturation. Pao2 decreases and paco2 increases: hypoventilation occurs due to diseases affecting the central nervous system (cns), neuromuscular diseases, barbiturates and other drugs and narcotics are cns depressants. Hence, there is a shunt of the mother"s blood from the left heart directly to the right heart of the fetus. After the baby is delivered, the hole is no longer there, the baby"s blood with go through the pulmonary circulation to get oxygenated: in some disease, the hole doesn"t close or doesn"t close completely.
