What is the meaning of life? : we like to think that our life has meaning/some purpose. Question of body and mind: materialism nothing but physical objects/modern science. Attraction to some sort of object materialism can"t explain this because everything that happens to you in your mental sphere has an accompanying physical phenomenon. Cant equate mental acts with physical processes even if the two are happening together. Phantom limb problem with materialism if there"s no arm, no explanation for why you"d be feeling it. Feeling happens in the mind feeling of pain in the mind when your hand hurts caused by the body, pain as a phenomenon is not physical, it"s mental. Opposite of materialism: idealism: no physical objects, just the mind. Matter is essentially beyond our reach have our consciousness, no access to the object within itself.
