You cannot have someone come to understand what it is through other terms: moore is not violating his own statement by providing three equivalents in his value theory. They are restatements, not illuminating, clarifying definitions. (e. g. a bachelor is an unmarried male: the open question argument, take some examples of the definition of good . For example, we can"t clarify what goodness is. Does not tell us whether it is true or false that pleasure is the only thing that is intrinsically good : hedonism is a popular theory because people think pleasure is a part of goodness. Desire is a transitive verb and the noun after it is the object. Moore thinks that there is some relationship between pleasure and desire, but pleasure is not the object of desire: e. g. The glass of port wine is the object of desire. If i were to desire pleasure, i could take other things besides the port wine.
