Expiratory muscles: resistance increases and the movement of airflow out of the lungs is impeded muscles. down the anterior part of the lower chest (cid:224)in effect, they force the diaphragm upwards. (cid:224)they are essential for several body functions: e. g. coughing, singing, talking, vomiting can result in an enormous increase in pressure (up to 100 mm hg) in the thoracic cage and abdomen. (cid:224)if sustained decrease in venous return to the heart, thus a decrease in cardiac output. Types of alveolar ventilation (cid:224)alveolar partial pressure of o2 (pao2) rises and that of co2 (paco2) decreases. (cid:224)ventilation considered with respect to the metabolism; ve during exercise is not hyperventilation. (cid:224)alveolar partial pressure of o2 (pao2) falls and paco2 rises. (cid:224)may occur during severe disorders of the lungs (e. g. chronic obstructive lung disease), or when there is damage to the respiratory muscles. (cid:224)can also occur when the chest cage is injured/lungs collapse/cns is depressed.
